BFR's expertise in fly reel design and innovative use of CNC Machine Tools, set them apart in the world of Fly Reel design and manufacture. The design brief was for a state of the art, Large Arbor Fly Reel, which addressed some of the limitations of similar reels, in terms of line capacity and drag performance. The Centre Disc Drag system, eclipses anything on the market. It incorporates three polished Stainless Steel Drag discs, with "Broflon" Drag washers sandwiched between. This state of the art substance is a Bronze and Teflon composite material, combining an ultra low coefficient of friction with superb wear characteristics and resistance to the kind of temperatures that would destroy most cork or PTFE Drag systemsCNC machined from 6262-T6 grade Aerospace Aluminium bar stock, to tolerances down to 0.01mm Large arbor diameter for faster retrieve, more consistent drag and less line memory Powerful, silky smooth drag system with large drag surface area Heat resistant "Broflon" drag discs, bearing on polished Stainless Steel drag washers Fully ventilated frame and spool, for fast heat dissipation and reduced weight Knurled grip drag control on back of reel Hard anodised Black or Titanium finish for total Saltwater and chip resistance Easy left to right hand conversion Generous backing capacity Built for both fresh and saltwater use All Stainless steel internal parts Available in a hard anodised Black or Titanium finish Each XS Reel comes in a quality reel case, with a 5 year guarantee The use of free moving drag washers, rather than the usual laminated Drag discs, creates 4 bearing surfaces, doubling the drag surface area to a class leading 22.6cm2. The result is almost zero start-up inertia and a silky smooth drag, finely adjustable from zero to "Tarpon stopping", by means of the detented drag control, on the rear face.
