Angling Centre Guide to:
Inshore and Wreck fishing in The south Hams
Points of Departure,
The most local points to us are either Salcombe or Dartmouth, unless
you have a boat small enough to be pushed across the shingle at Start
Bay. We can put you in touch with various trips with experienced charter
skippers, fully insured licensed charter boats from Dartmouth and Salcombe.

Fishing the Skerries
Banks
The main Skerries bank stretches from Start point in a fairly straight
line to within about two miles of Dartmouth. Inside the main bank are
many gently undulating sandbanks, which produce good catches of Plaice,
Turbot and Ray. some of the best fishing in South Devon can be found
all year round on these banks.
Coastal Rock Marks
Most Skippers and enthusiasts have their own preferred marks for Bass,
Pollack and Wrasse. The state of the tide will often determine the fishing
conditions, especially when the water is calm and crystal clear.
Wreck
Fishing
The depth of the water once past the immediate coastal slope is generally
just over the 200’ if you are fishing at 5 or 25 miles. There
are wrecks dotted about all over the place and the Charter Skippers
have the locations well logged. The catches vary through out the year
with Large Pollack being the most consistent. In the summer months good-sized
Cod can be landed in good numbers. Although as well as the leisure anglers
the commercial fishermen will often net a wreck and spoil the fishing
for others.
